Samarium chloride powder is an important rare earth compound.
Chemical formula: SmCl3, composed of samarium (Sm) and chlorine (Cl) elements.
CAS No.: 10361-82-7.
EINECS No.: 233-797-0.
Molecular weight: 256.72.
Appearance: Usually white to yellow powder.
Density: 2.383 g/ml (25/4°C).
Melting point: 686±2°C.
Direct Chlorination of Rare Earth Oxide: use samarium oxide to react with chlorine gas under certain conditions to produce samarium chloride.
Ammonium Chloride Chlorination Method: Mix ammonium chloride with samarium oxide according to 2~3 times of the theoretical amount and heat it under 300~350℃ to chlorinate samarium oxide, and then remove the excess ammonium chloride by degassing.
Hydrochloric acid dissolution method: Dissolve samarium oxide in hydrochloric acid, evaporate, concentrate and precipitate hexahydrate crystals after cooling on water bath.
Preparation of samarium metal: samarium chloride can be used as raw material for the preparation of samarium metal, which has many uses in the field of magnets and so on.
Flux: Anhydrous Samarium Chloride can be used as flux for sodium chloride and calcium chloride.
Chemical research: It can be used as a starting material to prepare other samarium compounds in the laboratory for related chemical research.
