Zinc Selenide particles are yellow cubic polycrystalline material particles, the size of the crystalline particles is about 70μm, the relative density is about 5.27g/cm³, the melting point is about 1525℃, and it has good transmittance of infrared light in the range of 0.5-15μm, which is commonly used in the fields of lasers, medical science, astronomy and infrared night vision.

Characteristics

Appearance: yellow, in the air in the light will quickly turn into red.

Density: Relative density is about 5.27g/cm³.

Hardness: relatively soft hardness, Knoop’s hardness is 110 – 130kg/mm.

Melting point: Relatively high melting point, about 1525°C.

Transmission range: It has good optical properties, with a transmission range of 0.5 – 15μm, high transmittance of infrared light with a wavelength of less than 15μm, and low scattering in the whole transmission band, which makes it widely used in the optical field, such as making infrared optical instruments.

Refractive index: The refractive index is high, for example, at 10.6μm wavelength, the refractive index is about 2.4028.

Stability, zinc selenide is relatively stable at room temperature, but it is easy to decompose when left in the air for a long time or when it meets dilute nitric acid, and it is insoluble in water.
It will oxidize to selenium dioxide and zinc oxide when heated to a certain temperature in air.

Reactivity: H₂Se will be generated when reacting with dilute acid, which is toxic and requires attention to safety protection during storage, transportation and use.

Applications

Optical field:

Infrared optical components: Zinc selenide is often used in the manufacture of infrared optical components due to its good transmittance in the infrared band, high transmittance of infrared light at wavelengths of less than 15 μm, and very low scattering loss.

Laser Devices: It is a key material for making high-power laser devices, which can be used in carbon dioxide lasers and so on. Its high optical quality and good adaptability to specific laser wavelengths result in low energy loss during transmission, which ensures efficient laser output. It plays an important role in laser equipment in industrial processing, medical surgery, scientific research and other fields.

Nonlinear Optical Devices: In the field of nonlinear optics, zinc selenide particles can be used in the manufacture of nonlinear optical crystals for special optical processes such as frequency conversion, light modulation, etc., which expands the scope of optical applications.

Semiconductor field:

Semiconductor devices: Zinc selenide belongs to the Ⅱ-VI group of compound semiconductor materials, and its semiconducting properties allow it to be used in the manufacture of semiconductor devices such as thin-film transistors (TFTs). It has the potential to be used in flat panel displays, electronic circuits and other fields, and can provide high-performance semiconductor components for electronic devices.

Solar Cells: Can be used in thin-film solar cells to help capture sunlight and convert it into electricity, improving the photoelectric conversion efficiency of solar cells.

Biomedical field:

Imaging contrast agent: Zinc selenide particles have unique optical properties and can emit fluorescence under the excitation of light of specific wavelengths, so they can be used as a contrast agent for fluorescence imaging and used in imaging studies of biological tissues to provide clearer image information for medical diagnosis.

Drug delivery: specially treated zinc selenide particles can be used in targeted drug delivery systems, capable of carrying drugs and releasing them in specific body parts, improving the therapeutic effect of drugs and reducing the side effects of drugs on other normal tissues.

Catalytic field:

Photocatalytic degradation: it can be used as a photocatalyst that can promote the degradation of organic pollutants under light conditions, which is important for water and air purification. For example, it can be used to treat industrial wastewater and purify indoor air.

Photocatalytic hydrogen production: it has certain application potential in photocatalytic water decomposition for hydrogen production, which can utilize solar energy to decompose water into hydrogen and oxygen, providing a new way for clean energy production.

Material Science Field:

Nanocomposites: can be used as a component of nanocomposites, and composite with other materials can enhance the mechanical, thermal, electrical and other properties of the material, providing the possibility of developing new high-performance materials. For example, composites with polymers can improve the strength and electrical conductivity of the material.

Coated materials: used for thin film deposition of electronic and optical devices, can provide good optical and electrical properties for the device, improve the stability and reliability of the device.
