Yttrium Fluoride granules are a white powder, cubic crystal system, insoluble in water, hygroscopic in air, chemically stable and can be used in optics, illumination, metal fabrication and other fields.

Properties

Chemical Formula:YF₃

Molecular weight: 145.901109

CAS No. 13709-49-4

Appearance: white powder, belongs to cubic crystal system.

Density: 4.01g/cm³

Melting point: 1152°C

Boiling point: 2230°C

Solubility: insoluble in water, insoluble in hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid, but soluble in perchloric acid, hygroscopicity in air.

Stability: chemically stable, and with ammonium fluoride can be generated NH₄F・YF₃ insoluble complex salt.

Applications

Optical field: Because Yttrium Fluoride has good optical properties, it can be used in the preparation of optical films, laser crystals and so on. For example, it plays an important role in rare-earth crystal laser materials and upconversion luminescent materials, and it can also be used to manufacture fluoride glass optical fiber and fluoride spinning glass.

Lighting field: Yttrium Fluoride can be used to manufacture carbon electrodes for arc lamps in lighting sources.

Material Preparation: It is one of the raw materials for the electrolytic production of yttrium metal.
