Composition: The core elements of WC are tungsten (W) and carbon (C), with tungsten at +4 valence and carbon at -4 valence.
Crystal structure: WC has a simple hexagonal crystal structure.
Appearance and morphology: Tungsten carbide targets are generally black or dark grey lumps.
Thin film deposition: WC target is widely used for thin film deposition in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. Through magnetron sputtering or ion beam sputtering and other physical vapour deposition techniques, tungsten carbide is deposited on the surface of semiconductor chips, circuit boards or electronic components.
Field emission materials: the electron emission characteristics of WC make it available as field emission materials. By depositing WC film on the substrate, materials with good field emission properties can be manufactured for use in electronic microscopes, flat panel displays and other fields.
Thermoelectric materials: WC also has some research value in thermoelectric conversion. Its unique electrical and thermal properties make it possible for tungsten carbide to be used as a thermoelectric material in heat and power conversion devices, converting waste heat into electricity and improving energy utilisation.
