Tin metal foil is a kind of thin sheet made of tin metal, with good flexibility, ductility, usually silver grey in colour, which can be used in packaging, electronics, chemicals and many other fields.
Characteristics
Appearance: Tin metal foil is usually silver grey in colour, which is a characteristic of tin metal itself. Its surface is glossy and metallic, reflecting light, making packaged products look more sophisticated and adding lustre in decorative application scenarios.
Strength and ductility: tin metal foil has a certain tensile strength, although not as high as some high-strength metal materials, but in the moderate tension can remain intact. It has good ductility and can be stretched and deformed without rupture, making it easy to be processed into a variety of shapes, such as being stamped into the shape of specific containers or being moulded into exquisite shapes in the production of handicrafts.
Thermal conductivity: Tin foil is a good conductor of heat and has a high thermal conductivity of about 66.6W/(m・K).
Melting Point: The relatively low melting point of approximately 232°C limits its use in high temperature environments, although in some suitable heating scenarios, such as heat sealing packaging, the low melting point is an advantage, allowing for easy sealing by heat.
Conductivity: Tin foil has good electrical conductivity, which makes it useful as a simple conductive or electromagnetic shielding material in electronics. Although its conductivity is not as good as copper, silver and other metals, but in some of the conductivity requirements are not extremely high occasions, such as small electronic equipment, electromagnetic interference protection, can play a very good role.
Corrosion resistance: At room temperature, tin foil has good corrosion resistance to most common substances. It is resistant to water, oxygen and some weak acid and alkali solutions, which is an important reason why it can be used for food packaging and pharmaceutical packaging. For example, it can prevent food from deteriorating due to chemical reaction with the external environment within a certain period of time.
Reactivity: In general, tin foil is relatively stable, but in some specific chemical environments, such as encountering strong oxidising acids (e.g. concentrated sulphuric acid, concentrated nitric acid) or under extreme conditions such as high temperatures and high humidity, tin foil will undergo chemical reactions. However, under normal use conditions, such reactions are less likely.
Applications
Medical field:
Pharmaceutical packaging: The barrier property of tin foil allows it to be used in the packaging of pharmaceuticals to prevent moisture and deterioration and to ensure the quality of pharmaceuticals.
Surgical dressings: In some special medical scenarios, tin foil can be used as part of surgical dressings to isolate and protect wounds.
Electronic field:
Electromagnetic shielding: tin foil has a certain degree of conductivity and can be used for electromagnetic shielding of electronic equipment. Wrapping tin foil on the outside or inside of electronic equipment can reduce the influence of external electromagnetic interference on the equipment and improve the stability and reliability of the equipment.
Heat dissipation material: tin has good thermal conductivity, in some electronic equipment, tin foil can be used as part of the heat dissipation material to help electronic components dissipate heat and reduce the temperature of the equipment.
Other fields:
Military industry: For example, the sealing gasket on the fire cap of the US Army’s M26 grenade is made of tin foil, which has excellent sealing performance.
Signal boosting: Tin foil can be folded into long strips and wrapped around the antenna of a router to concentrate the signal and boost Wi-Fi signals.
VI HALBLEITERMATERIAL GmbH (VIMATERIAL) employs a stringent quality assurance system to ensure the reliability of our product quality. Strict quality control is implemented throughout the entire production chain, and for defective products, we strictly enforce the principle of rework and redo. Each batch is released only after passing detailed specification tests.
Every batch of our materials is independently tested, and, if necessary, we send samples to certified companies for testing. We provide these documents and analysis certificates with the shipment to certify that our products meet the required standards.
