Stability: more stable in dry environment, but easy to be oxidised in humid air, hydrolysis reaction will occur in contact with water;
Reactivity: Tin Chloride has strong reducing property and can react with oxidants. For example, under alkaline conditions, stannous chloride can be oxidised by oxygen in the air;
Complexation: can form complexes with some ligands, such as with chloride ions can form [SnCl₃]- and other complex ions.
Applications
Chemical industry:
Organic synthesis catalyst: Tin Chloride can be used to promote the processing and preparation of esters, carboxylic acid esters, acetaldehyde and other organic substances, and can improve the reaction rate and yield in some organic reactions.
Plastic Processing Aid: Tin Chloride can be used as a binder and catalyst in plastic processing, for example, in the production of thermoplastic vulcanised rubber, elastic plastics, etc., which can make the product combine the cost advantage of thermoplastic and the elasticity of rubber.
Phenolic Resin Crosslinking Catalyst: Tin Chloride is used in the production of phenolic resins to help realise the crosslinking reaction and improve the performance of the resin, which is widely used in everyday products such as home appliances, adhesives and coatings.
Printing and dyeing industry: It is an important dye additive, which can be used in dyeing, printing and bleaching process. It can improve the affinity of dyestuff, make the dyeing even and firm; it can be used as anti-dyeing agent and dye pulling agent in printing process.
Leather treatment: It is used as tanning agent, which helps to make leather soft, wear-resistant, water-resistant, mildew-resistant, and can keep the original colour and luster of leather.
Electroplating industry: Tin Chloride can be used in acid tin plating, which can be used as the main salt for tin plating, as well as for tin and copper-tin plating of mechanical parts, and sensitising treatment before non-metallic plating, which can enhance the bonding and uniformity of the plated layer.
Water treatment field: It is used as polymerising agent and flocculating agent to remove suspended substances, heavy metal ions and organic substances in water, and play a role in purifying water quality.
Glass industry: Tin Chloride is used in the surface treatment of glass to make glass products more wear-resistant, scratch-resistant and rupture-resistant; in the mirror industry, it can be used as the sensitiser of silver nitrate plating to make the coating brightness good.
Food industry: It can be used as preservative and antioxidant in some food products, such as in the production process of canned asparagus and pineapple juice, which can prevent the food from oxidising and deteriorating.
In the field of analytical chemistry, it is used as analytical reagent for the determination of silver, arsenic, molybdenum, mercury and other elements; it can also be used as reductant in chemical analysis for the reduction of organic nitro, azo and diazo compounds.
VI HALBLEITERMATERIAL GmbH (VIMATERIAL) employs a stringent quality assurance system to ensure the reliability of our product quality. Strict quality control is implemented throughout the entire production chain, and for defective products, we strictly enforce the principle of rework and redo. Each batch is released only after passing detailed specification tests.
Every batch of our materials is independently tested, and, if necessary, we send samples to certified companies for testing. We provide these documents and analysis certificates with the shipment to certify that our products meet the required standards.
