Terbium Oxide powder is an important rare earth compound.

Basic Information:

Chemical formula: Tb₄O₇, composed of the elements terbium (Tb) and oxygen (O), with a relative molecular mass of 747.69.
CAS number: 12037-01-3.
Appearance: Usually a tan or dark brown powdery solid.
Density: about 7.3g/cm³.
Melting point: high, about 2337℃-2410℃.
Solubility: insoluble in water, but soluble in hot concentrated acid and inorganic acid.

Uses:

Fluorescent material field: Terbium Oxide can be used as an activator of green phosphor for colour TV picture tubes, fluorescent lamps, etc., which can emit green light in the excited state.

Magneto-optical materials: Terbium Oxide used in the manufacture of magneto-optical storage materials, such as magneto-optical discs can be used as computer storage elements, its storage capacity compared to ordinary storage elements have been significantly improved.

Solid-state devices: Terbium is used as a dopant in solid-state devices, such as solid-state lasers, to improve the performance of the devices.
