Tellurium Iodide powder is a compound powder consisting of tellurium and iodine with various colours and active chemical properties, which has potential applications in material science, chemical synthesis and optoelectronics.

Characteristics

Chemical formula : TeI₄

Molecular weight: 635.218 g/mol

Appearance: Usually black crystalline powder.

Density: Relative density 5.05 g/cm³ (25℃).

Melting point: about 280°C.

Solubility: soluble in hydriodic acid, lye and ammonia, slightly soluble in acetone, ethanol and pentanol, almost insoluble in carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, esters and acetic acid.

Chemical Properties: It has certain chemical reaction activity, and can react with some substances under specific conditions, and can be used in organic synthesis and other fields. Relatively stable in deliquescent air.

Crystal structure: Orthorhombic crystal system.

Applications

Semiconductor doping: In the semiconductor industry, it can be used as a dopant to change the electrical properties of semiconductor materials. High purity tellurium iodide powder can be used to prepare semiconductor devices with specific electrical characteristics, which helps to improve the performance and stability of semiconductor devices.

Catalysts or reagents in chemical synthesis: although not as widely used as some common catalysts, tellurium iodide may play a catalytic role in specific chemical reactions or participate in reactions as a reagent to help synthesise other compounds.

Materials science research: It is used to study the preparation and properties of novel materials. Researchers use tellurium iodide powder to react or dope with other substances to explore new material systems and properties. For example, tellurium iodide may be involved in the research of some new optoelectronic materials, superconducting materials and so on.

Optical field: due to its special optical properties, it may be applied in the preparation of optical devices or optical materials, for example, it has potential application value in some special optical coatings, optical filters and so on. However, this application is still at the research stage and has not yet been widely used.
