Tantalum chloride (TaCl5) powder is a white monoclinic crystalline powdered inorganic compound.

Properties

Density: 3.68g/cm³

Melting point: 216℃

Solubility: Soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene, benzene, mesitylene, etc., insoluble in cyclohexane and carbon tetrachloride.

Chemical properties: Easy to hydrolyze, and white hydroxide precipitate will precipitate. It can be decomposed into metallic tantalum at 600℃ in a vacuum.

Application

1. Electronic materials field:
Preparation of optical glass: Tantalum chloride can be used to manufacture glass with special optical properties, such as forming an insulating film with strong adhesion and thickness of 0.1μm on the surface of electronic components and semiconductor devices. This glass has important applications in optical instruments, electronic equipment, etc., and has high dielectric constant.
Making electrode materials: In the electrolytic copper foil of the chlor-alkali industry, the surface of the electrolytic anode of the oxygen production industry and the wastewater industry, it is mixed with ruthenium compounds and platinum group compounds to form an oxide conductive film, which can improve the film adhesion and extend the service life of the electrode by more than 5 years.
2. Chemical synthesis field:
Chlorination agent for organic compounds: As a strong oxidant and chlorinating agent, it can be used in organic synthesis reactions to chlorinate certain groups in organic compounds, such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, amines, etc.
Preparation of other tantalum compounds: It is an important intermediate for the synthesis of other tantalum compounds, such as tantalum carbide, etc.
3. Coating material field: It can be used to prepare tantalum oxide coatings, which have good wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance, and are widely used in aerospace, machinery manufacturing and other fields.
