Strontium iodide powder is a white to light yellow crystalline powder, composed of strontium and iodine, hygroscopic, easily soluble in water and ethanol, can be used in medicine, scintillator materials and other fields.

Solubility: soluble in water, at 20℃, the solubility is about 177.0 g/100 ml; slightly soluble in ethanol, at 4℃, the solubility is about 3.1 g/100 ml.

Hygroscopicity: Strontium iodide has a certain degree of hygroscopicity, easy to absorb moisture in the air.

Stability: It will not decompose if it is used and stored under normal temperature and pressure and in accordance with specifications, but it will decompose and free iodine if it absorbs carbon dioxide in the air.

Oxidizing and reducing properties: Iodine ions in strontium iodide have certain reducing properties, and can show reducing properties in some chemical reactions.

Applications

Pharmaceuticals: Strontium iodide can be used as a substitute for potassium iodide in pharmaceuticals, for example, as an intermediate in the synthesis of some drugs, but also for the treatment of certain diseases, such as thyroid disease.

Scintillator materials: Strontium iodide is a promising scintillator material for gamma-ray spectroscopy due to its good optical transparency, relatively high density, high effective atomic number (Z=48) and high scintillation light yield, especially europium-doped strontium iodide (SrI₂:Eu²⁺) which can be used in radionuclide detectors, etc.

Battery materials: Strontium iodide can be used as a strong reducing compound for the preparation of composite collector for lithium anode-free batteries, which can improve the cycling performance of lithium anode-free batteries by dissolving it in an organic solvent, soaking the carbon paper substrate, and then obtaining the composite collector after drying.
