Silver metal powder is a silver material consisting of tiny silver particles. The size of these particles is usually in the micron or even nanometer range, and their shape can be spherical, flaky, irregular, and many other forms. This powdered silver material has a large specific surface area, which makes it unique in many applications.

Characteristics

Density: The density of silver metal powder usually varies depending on the particle morphology, size distribution and processing method, but the theoretical density of pure silver is about 10.5 g/cm3, which is relatively small in the powdered state.

Melting point: Silver has a melting point of 960.8°C (1761.4°F), which is the temperature point at which the metal changes from a solid to a liquid. In the powder state, due to factors such as small particle size and large specific surface area, it may exhibit properties such as sintering that are slightly different from those of bulk silver as it approaches the melting point.

Boiling Point: Approximately 2210°C (4010°F), at which temperature silver changes from a liquid to a gas.

Colour: Generally grey-black, grey or silvery-white, the colour can be affected by the particle size, shape, surface condition and other factors.

Stability: Silver metal powder is relatively stable at room temperature and pressure, but under certain conditions, such as contact with strong oxidising agents and exposure to sulphur-containing environments, silver will undergo chemical reactions. Silver easily reacts with sulphur in the air to form black silver sulphide, resulting in a change in the colour of silver powder.

Resistivity: about 15.87 nano-ohm-metre, good electrical conductivity is one of the important reasons why silver metal powder is widely used in electronics, conductive paste and other fields.

Specific surface area: due to the fine particles in the powder state, the specific surface area is large, which makes the silver powder has a high surface activity, and it has potential application value in catalysis, adsorption and so on.

Applications

Electronic industry: In the electronic industry, silver metal powder is an important material for the manufacture of electronic components, such as conductive paste for making printed circuit boards (PCB), electrode materials, and internal electrodes for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC).

Chemical industry: it can be used as catalyst or catalyst carrier. For example, in some organic synthesis reactions, silver powder can be used as a catalyst to improve the selectivity and efficiency of the reaction; other active ingredients loaded on the silver powder, you can prepare a catalyst with better performance.
