The crystal structure of scandium nitride is usually of two types, namely blue phase and rutile phase. Blue phase scandium nitride has a hexagonal closest packing structure, each Ga atom is surrounded by 12 N atoms, and each N atom is surrounded by six Ga atoms. Rutile phase scandium nitride is a space group F-43m, with a tetrahedral structure, each Ga and N atom is located at the vertex and center of gravity of the tetrahedron, respectively. The crystal structure stability of blue phase scandium nitride is poor, which is easy to cause grain boundaries and defects, while the rutile phase has better mechanical properties and chemical inertness.
