Ruthenium Chloride powder is a black, easily deliquescent, relative density of 3.11, above 500 ℃ will decompose, insoluble in cold water and carbon disulfide but soluble in hydrochloric acid, can be used as a catalyst or catalyst precursor, spectroscopic reagent, etc., in the organic synthesis, electronics industry, spectral analysis and other fields have a wide range of applications in chemical substances.

Characteristic

Chemical formula: RuCl₃

Molecular weight: 207.43

Appearance: Usually black powder, in some cases it may appear greyish brown or dark red.

Storage conditions: It needs to be kept sealed and dry at room temperature, as it is highly deliquescent, i.e., it easily absorbs moisture from the air and becomes moist.

Density: Relative density is 3.11g/cm³.

Melting point: it will decompose into a single substance when it is higher than 500℃.

Solubility: Insoluble in cold water and carbon disulfide, will decompose in hot water, but soluble in hydrochloric acid.

Chemical Properties: corrosive, under certain conditions, it will have chemical reaction with other substances. For example, in some catalytic reactions, ruthenium chloride can participate in the reaction as a catalyst.

Applications

Catalyst field:

Catalyst for organic synthesis reactions: Ruthenium Chloride can be used as a catalyst for polymerisation, isomerisation, hydrogenation and other reactions of many organic substances. For example, in the field of fine chemicals, it is used in the synthesis process of some complex organic compounds to help improve the reaction rate and selectivity and promote the reaction.

Nanoparticle synthesis precursors: used for the synthesis of ruthenium nanoparticles, which can be applied as catalysts for various chemical reactions, or compounded with other materials to form composites with specific functions for catalysing oxygen reduction reactions, hydrogen precipitation reactions, etc.

Single-atom catalyst precursor: Ruthenium Chloride can be used to prepare single-atom catalysts, which have a unique electronic structure and catalytic properties, and exhibit excellent catalytic activity and selectivity in some specific chemical reactions, such as nitrogen fixation, hydrogen precipitation and other important applications.

Metal alloy synthesis: for the synthesis of metal alloys, such as Pt-Ru, Pt-Ru-Fe alloys, etc. These alloys have important applications in electrocatalysis and other fields, and are usually used in the oxidation reactions of simple organic compounds such as methanol or formic acid.

Electronic industry:

Electroplating: It can be used as a catalyst for the oxidation reaction between electroplating and electrolysis anodes and oxidants, and is used for plating a layer of ruthenium metal on the surface of metals to improve the corrosion resistance, hardness and abrasion resistance of the metal and other properties.

Manufacture of electronic components: In the manufacture of certain electronic components, ruthenium chloride powder can be used as a raw material or additive for the preparation of materials with specific electrical properties, e.g. for the preparation of electrode materials for resistors, capacitors and other components.

Spectroscopy: as spectroscopically pure reagents in scientific research fields such as spectroscopy, they help to analyse and detect the composition and structure of other substances.

Biomedical field: Although relatively little used, ruthenium chloride powder may be used in some biomedical research for the preparation of compounds with specific biological activities or as an auxiliary material in drug discovery and development, for the study of the mechanism of action and the biological activity of drugs etc.

Other areas: Ruthenium chloride can be used as a catalyst for specific chemical reactions, such as oxidative cyclisation of cyclic ethers and hydroxylation of tertiary carbon-hydrogen bonds.
