Potassium tellurite, with the chemical formula K₂TeO₃, is an inorganic compound in which the potassium ion is bound to the tellurite anion. It is a water-soluble salt with interesting chemical properties due to the fact that tellurium is in the +4 oxidation state.
Appearance: usually white to off-white crystalline solid.
Chemical formula: K₂TeO₃
Molecular structure: Tellurium is bound to three oxygen atoms in a triangular cone structure.
Solubility: Soluble in water, forming an alkaline solution.
Stability: Stable under normal conditions, but can react with acids to form tellurium dioxide (TeO₂) and tellurium-containing gases.
Microbiology: Used as a selective agent in media for the isolation of certain bacteria (e.g. Corynebacterium diphtheriae) due to its toxic effects on other microorganisms.
Chemical: As a precursor for the synthesis of other tellurium compounds.
Research: study of its chemical and catalytic properties, and materials science of tellurium-based materials.
Store in sealed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area.
Wear protective gloves, goggles and laboratory coveralls when handling.
VI HALBLEITERMATERIAL GmbH (VIMATERIAL) employs a stringent quality assurance system to ensure the reliability of our product quality. Strict quality control is implemented throughout the entire production chain, and for defective products, we strictly enforce the principle of rework and redo. Each batch is released only after passing detailed specification tests.
Every batch of our materials is independently tested, and, if necessary, we send samples to certified companies for testing. We provide these documents and analysis certificates with the shipment to certify that our products meet the required standards.
