Palladium Silver Alloy sputtering targets are sputtering targets made of an alloy consisting of palladium and silver, which have excellent physicochemical properties and are used in important applications in electronics and chemicals.

Characteristics

Density: Typically between 11.2 – 11.5 g/cm3, this high density gives the target good stability and material transport properties during sputtering.

Melting point: between 1280°C and 1475°C. The high melting point ensures that the target is stable and has good substance transport properties during sputtering. The high melting point ensures that the target can withstand high energy inputs during the sputtering process without melting and deformation, which is conducive to maintaining the stability and uniformity of sputtering.

Hardness: Vickers hardness is generally between 736 – 883MPa, the higher hardness makes the target material has better wear resistance and deformation resistance, can maintain a better shape and surface flatness in the sputtering process, so as to ensure the quality of sputtered film.

Antioxidant properties: good oxidation resistance at room temperature, which increases with the palladium content at high temperatures. This makes the target less susceptible to oxidation during storage and use and maintains good chemical stability.

Corrosion resistance: it can be dissolved by nitric acid and corroded by cyanide, but it does not change colour in sulphur-containing atmosphere, so it has certain corrosion resistance.

Hydrogen Absorption and Transmission Performance: It has strong hydrogen absorption ability and selective hydrogen transmission ability, and the purity of hydrogen filtered by it can reach 99.99999%, which is a characteristic that makes it potentially valuable in certain applications that have high requirements for hydrogen purity.

Resistivity: The resistivity of the alloy varies depending on the ratio of palladium to silver. Palladium has a relatively high resistivity and silver has a relatively low resistivity. By adjusting the ratio of the two, it is possible to obtain Palladium-Silver alloy sputtering targets with specific resistivities to meet different electrical performance requirements.

Conductive properties: As silver has good conductive properties, palladium silver alloys also have good conductive properties to a certain extent, which makes the thin films formed by sputtering have good conductive properties in areas such as electronic devices.

Applications

Electronic industry field:

Semiconductor manufacturing: Palladium silver alloy sputtering targets are used for metal sputtering in the manufacturing process of semiconductor chips. For example, in the wafer manufacturing process, the palladium silver alloy film layer can be used as a conductive or barrier layer to help realise the interconnection of hundreds of millions of micro-transistors inside the chip, and to play the role of transmitting signals. Its high purity and good conductivity can meet the high requirements of semiconductor manufacturing.

Integrated circuit packaging: In the process of chip packaging, palladium silver alloy sputtering targets can be used for the coating of patch welding lines to improve the conductivity of the welding line and the reliability of the connection, which helps to improve the performance and stability of integrated circuits.

Manufacturing of electronic components: It can be used to manufacture electrodes or conductive layers for electronic components such as capacitors and resistors. The good conductivity and stability of palladium silver alloys can ensure the normal operation of electronic components and improve their performance and service life.

Optical field:

Optical Coating: In the surface coating of optical elements such as optical lenses, optical lenses, etc., palladium silver alloy sputtering targets can prepare thin films with specific optical properties, such as transmittance-enhancing films and reflective films. These films can enhance the optical properties of optical elements such as transmittance and reflectance, and improve the imaging quality and performance of optical systems.

Flat panel display: In the manufacture of flat panel displays, palladium silver alloy sputtering targets can be used to prepare electrodes, conductive layers and other components. Its good conductivity and uniform sputtering characteristics help to improve the resolution, brightness and colour reproduction of flat panel displays and other properties.

Chemical field:

Catalyst preparation: palladium silver alloy, as an excellent catalyst material, can be used for various catalytic reactions in chemical production. Palladium silver alloy catalysts prepared by sputtering target technology have high activity and selectivity, which can improve the efficiency and yield of chemical reactions and reduce the energy consumption and cost of reactions. For example, in the fields of organic synthesis and petrochemicals, palladium silver alloy catalysts can be used for hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, oxidation and other reactions.

Sensor manufacturing: Using the physical and chemical properties of palladium-silver alloys, they can be used to manufacture chemical sensors such as gas sensors and humidity sensors. These sensors have a wide range of applications in the fields of environmental monitoring, industrial production, and smart home.

Medical field:

Surface Coating of Medical Devices: Coating the surface of medical devices with palladium silver alloy films can improve the biocompatibility, corrosion resistance and antimicrobial properties of medical devices, reduce the risk of infection for patients and improve the service life of medical devices. For example, palladium silver alloy sputtering targets have important applications in the surface coating of medical devices such as artificial joints and dental implants.

Medical imaging equipment: In the manufacture of medical imaging equipment, palladium silver alloy sputtering targets can be used to prepare conductive layers or electrodes for X-ray detectors, CT detectors and other components, to improve the sensitivity and resolution of detectors, and to improve the quality of medical images.

Decoration and protection:

High-grade decorative items: Palladium silver alloys have a unique metallic luster and colour, which can be used to manufacture high-grade jewellery, watches, handicrafts and other decorative items. Through sputtering target technology, uniform and beautiful Pd-Ag alloy films can be prepared on the surface of these decorative items to enhance their decorative effect and added value.

Surface protective coatings: In some fields that require high surface properties of materials, such as aerospace and automobile manufacturing, Pd-Ag alloy sputtering targets can be used to prepare surface protective coatings, which can improve the abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance of the materials and prolong the service life of the materials.
