Reactivity: it can react with acid to produce corresponding neodymium salt and hydrogen, for example, react with hydrochloric acid to produce neodymium chloride and hydrogen.
Magnetic properties: It has strong magnetic properties and is an important component of magnetic materials. Its magnetic properties are much stronger than ordinary ferrite magnets, etc. It is a high-performance magnetic material.
Applications
In the field of permanent magnetic materials: it is one of the key raw materials for manufacturing NdFeB permanent magnets. NdFeB permanent magnets have extremely high magnetic energy product, coercivity and remanence, and are widely used in electric motors, generators, electric vehicles, wind power generation, MRI equipment, speakers, headphones and other equipment.
Optical field: As neodymium ions have special absorption spectral lines, they will show different colours under different light sources, so they can be used in the manufacture of optical glass, laser materials and so on. For example, adding neodymium in glass manufacturing can create glass with special colour and optical properties, which is used to make sunglasses, filters, etc. In laser technology, neodymium can be used as a dopant for laser materials and used to make solid-state lasers.
