Density: 10.22 g/cm³ or so

Melting point: 2610℃-2623℃.

Boiling point: 4639℃-5560℃.

Color: usually silver gray or dark gray

Chemical stability: stable to most chemicals at room temperature and pressure, but will react under specific conditions such as strong oxidizers, strong acids, etc.; when heated in the air, it will form a layer of oxidized film on the surface, thus it has a certain degree of antioxidant properties.

Hardness: Mohs hardness is about 5.5

Tensile strength: 200-550 MPa

Thermal conductivity: 138 W/m-K

Coefficient of thermal expansion: 4.8 µm・m-¹・K-¹ at 25°C.

Electrical resistivity: between 5.2 and 53.4 µOhm-cm.

Application

Powder metallurgy: It is an important raw material for the manufacture of molybdenum and molybdenum alloy products in the field of powder metallurgy. By mixing molybdenum metal powder with other alloying element powders, pressing, sintering and other processes, various molybdenum alloy parts with complex shapes and excellent performance can be prepared, such as molybdenum alloy molds, molybdenum alloy knives, molybdenum alloy sputtering targets, etc., which are widely used in the fields of machining, electronics, aerospace and so on.

Electronic materials: In the electronics industry, molybdenum metal powder can be used to manufacture electronic pastes, electronic packaging materials and so on. For example, molybdenum metal powder mixed with organic carrier made of electronic paste, can be screen printing and other processes in ceramics, glass and other substrates to form conductive lines or electrodes, for the manufacture of electronic components, integrated circuits, etc.; in the electronic encapsulation, molybdenum metal powder can be used as a filler material, to improve the encapsulation of the material’s thermal conductivity and mechanical strength.

Catalyst: Due to its large specific surface area and good chemical stability, molybdenum metal powder can be used as a catalyst or catalyst carrier in a variety of chemical reactions, such as hydrodesulfurization in petrochemicals, hydrogen denitrogenation reaction, as well as organic synthesis of oxidation, reduction reaction, etc., can improve the reaction efficiency, reduce the reaction temperature and pressure, and has important economic and environmental benefits.

Coating materials: It can be used to prepare various coatings, such as thermal spray coating and physical vapor deposition coating. Molybdenum metal powder can be sprayed on the metal surface through thermal spraying technology, which can form coatings with wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, high-temperature-resistant and other properties, and improve the service life and performance of metal materials; in the process of physical vapor deposition, molybdenum metal powder can be used as an evaporation source material, and molybdenum thin film is deposited on the substrate, which can be used to improve the material’s surface properties, optical properties, and so on.

Energy field: In the field of new energy, molybdenum metal powder also has certain applications. For example, in lithium-ion batteries, molybdenum metal powder can be used as an additive for anode materials to improve the charging and discharging performance and cycle life of the battery; in fuel cells, molybdenum metal powder can be used for the preparation of catalysts to promote the electrode reaction of the fuel cell and improve the performance and efficiency of the fuel cell.
