Molybdenum Carbide powder is a kind of powder with chemical formula Mo₂C, dark gray metallic, crystallized in dense hexagonal lattice, with high melting point, high hardness, good thermal stability, mechanical stability and corrosion resistance, similar to the electronic structure of precious metals and catalytic properties of the powder, which is widely used in the fields of alloy manufacturing, coatings, electronics and semiconductors, energy, catalysis and so on.

Structural properties: Molybdenum Carbide crystallizes in a dense hexagonal lattice, its structure is similar to that of tungsten carbide, and it has the electronic structure and catalytic properties similar to those of noble metals, the main types of catalytic reactions include hydrohydrogenolysis, isomerization, hydrodesulphurization, hydrogen denitrification, ammonia synthesis, hydrocarbon conversion and synthesis reactions.

Applications

Industrial manufacturing: Molybdenum Carbide is used in the production of molybdenum alloys, such as molybdenum-zirconium-titanium and molybdenum-titanium-zirconium-carbon alloys, which are characterized by high strength, good electrical and thermal conductivity, and low coefficients of thermal expansion, etc. These alloys are widely used in components such as electronic tubes, electric light source parts, metalworking tools and turbine disks, etc.; it can also be used as additives to steel to improve the steel’s corrosion resistance, strength, and weldability; and it can be used as the heating electrode in the glass melting furnace. It can also be used as heating electrode in glass melting furnace.

Coating field: It can be used to prepare wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant coating materials, which can be coated on the surface of metals and ceramics to improve the surface hardness, abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance, and prolong the service life.

Electronics and semiconductor: Molybdenum Carbide can be used to manufacture electrodes and contact materials in electronic devices; in the semiconductor manufacturing process, it can be used as a dopant or diffusion source to control the electrical properties of semiconductors and improve the performance and reliability of semiconductor devices.

Energy field: For example, in lithium-sulfur batteries, using Mo₂C as part of the cathode material can effectively inhibit the shuttle effect, promote the redox conversion of polysulfide ions, accelerate the kinetic reaction process, so that lithium-sulfur batteries have a high degree of stability and high reversible capacity electrochemical performance.

Catalytic field: Molybdenum Carbide can be used in a variety of catalytic reactions due to its noble metal-like electronic structure and catalytic properties, and is expected to be an alternative to noble metal catalysts, with important applications in hydrogenation, isomerization, desulphurization, denitrification and other reactions.
