Lead telluride, an inorganic compound with the chemical formula PbTe, is mainly used in the manufacture of thermoelectric converters (coolers, generators, heat sources), infrared detectors, and tunneling diodes.

Basic Properties

Chemical composition: PbTe consists of lead (Pb) and tellurium (Te), with lead at +2 valence and tellurium at -2 valence, and its chemical formula is PbTe.
Crystal structure: PbTe has a rock salt (NaCl type) crystal structure, i.e., cubic crystal system, in which lead and tellurium atoms occupy the lattice points of the face-centred cubic lattice respectively.
