Applications of Holmium oxide

Laser applications:Ho₂O₃ is used as a laser gain medium in the manufacture of Ho:YAG solid-state lasers, which output lasers with a wavelength of 2.1 μm, and are widely used in medical lithotripsy and surgery.

Nuclear energy control: Ho₂O₃ is used as a control rod material for nuclear reactors due to its high neutron absorption cross-section, effectively regulating the rate of nuclear fission reaction.

Fluorescent materials: Ho₂O₃ doped in glass or crystals produces special yellow-green fluorescence, which is used in upconversion luminescent materials, anti-counterfeit markers and LED devices.

Magnetic materials: Ho³⁺ ions in holmium oxide have strong magnetic moments, which can be used in low-temperature magnetic refrigeration materials and magnetic research.
