Gadolinium metal foil is a thin sheet material made of gadolinium metal, silver grey in colour, with the paramagnetic (at room temperature) or ferromagnetic (at low temperature) properties of the gadolinium metal itself, with good ductility and a certain degree of electrical conductivity, which has many applications in the fields of electronics, magnetism, and medicine.

Dielectric Constant: Few data are available, but as a metallic material it has a relatively low dielectric constant.

Magnetism: Paramagnetic at room temperature, but becomes ferromagnetic as the temperature decreases. This magnetic property makes it valuable in applications related to magnetism, e.g. for the manufacture of magnetic materials, magnetic recording media, etc.

Optical properties: The metal itself has a certain metallic luster and its compounds are used to produce phosphorescence in colour television tubes.

Applications

Magnetism: Due to its special magnetic properties, it can be used to manufacture permanent magnets, magnetic recording materials, etc. For example, in some high-performance magnetic storage devices, Gadolinium foil can be used as a key magnetic component to increase storage density and read/write speed.
In magnetic refrigeration technology, Gadolinium foil can be used as a carrier of magnetic refrigerant, using its magneto-thermal effect to achieve efficient refrigeration.

Electronic field: It can be used in semiconductor deposition, chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and physical vapour deposition (PVD) processes as a sputtering target or evaporation material for the preparation of thin film coatings in electronic devices, e.g., it has an important application in the manufacturing of integrated circuits and flat panel displays.

Medical field: In medical imaging, gadolinium compounds are often used as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and gadolinium foils can be used as raw materials for the preparation of contrast agents or play a role in the manufacture of related medical devices.

Optical field: It can be used to manufacture some optical components, such as in laser technology, optical sensors and other aspects of the application potential.

Nuclear industry: Gadolinium has a high thermal neutron capture cross-section and can be used as neutron absorbing material in nuclear reactors, e.g. as a material for control rods to control the rate and safety of nuclear reactions.
