Gadolinium metal powder is a black-brown, grey-black rare earth metal powder with high purity (purity up to 99% and above), easy to be oxidised in the air, need to avoid humidity and high temperature environment, widely used in special steel and special alloy additives, electronics, scientific research, medical treatment and other fields.

Properties

Molecular weight: 157.25

Density: The density of gadolinium metal is usually 7.9004 g/cm ³, but in the powdered state the density varies depending on factors such as the state of accumulation of the powder.

Melting point: about 1313°C

Boiling point: about 3266°C

Magnetic properties: Gadolinium is paramagnetic at room temperature but becomes ferromagnetic on cooling and is strongly attracted to magnets.

Electrical conductivity: As a metal, gadolinium has a certain electrical conductivity, but the exact electrical conductivity constant is more difficult to determine because it is related to a variety of factors such as gadolinium purity, temperature, and crystal structure.

Optical Properties: There have been relatively few studies on the optical properties of gadolinium metal powders, but gadolinium metal itself has a silvery-white metallic luster. Its compounds are used to produce phosphorescence in colour television tubes and computer monitors.

Dielectric properties: As a metal, gadolinium has a relatively low dielectric constant. However, in the powder state, the dielectric properties may change due to interactions between the powder particles and with the surrounding medium, but the specific dielectric constant is difficult to determine.

Applications

Special steel and special alloy additives: can improve the performance of steel and alloys, such as improving strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, etc..

Magnetic materials: Using its magnetic properties it can be used to make permanent magnets, magnetic recording materials, etc. For example, Gadolinium – potassium – garnet can be used as a media substance in magnetic bubble memory devices.

Neutron absorbers: Two isotopes of gadolinium are effective neutron absorbers and can be used to make control rods for nuclear reactors to ensure that the reactor chain reaction is stopped.

Refrigeration: Gadolinium has a strong magneto-thermal effect at room temperature and can be used as a magnetic coolant in magnetic refrigeration technology to create highly efficient chillers.

Medical field: Gadolinium-containing contrast agents for intravenous injection are mainly used to enhance the image quality of internal organs, blood vessels and tissues during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations.

Other fields: Used in optical fibres, optical discs (combining magnetic and optical properties) and in materials for protection against nuclear radiation.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

VI HALBLEITERMATERIAL GmbH (VIMATERIAL) employs a stringent quality assurance system to ensure the reliability of our product quality. Strict quality control is implemented throughout the entire production chain, and for defective products, we strictly enforce the principle of rework and redo. Each batch is released only after passing detailed specification tests.

Every batch of our materials is independently tested, and, if necessary, we send samples to certified companies for testing. We provide these documents and analysis certificates with the shipment to certify that our products meet the required standards.
