Europium Oxide

Europium oxide powder is a kind of rare earth metal oxide powder with light pink (or white, pinkish-white), relative density 7.42g/cm³, melting point about 2002℃ (or 2350℃), insoluble in water but soluble in acid, can absorb carbon dioxide in the air, and has many kinds.

Density: 7.42 g/cm³, belongs to the denser substances, in some application scenarios, its high density characteristics can play a certain role.

Melting point: 2350°C, with a high melting point, indicating that it can maintain a stable structure and performance in a high temperature environment, and can be used in high temperature related fields.

Boiling point: 4118°C

Solubility: insoluble in water, but soluble in acid, can react with acid to produce corresponding salts. And it is easy to absorb moisture and carbon dioxide in the air.

Optical properties: it has specific absorption and emission spectra in the visible range, it is a good red fluorescent material, and it can emit strong red fluorescence under the excitation of ultraviolet light

Magnetic properties: there are relatively few studies on the magnetic properties of europium oxide powder, but the element europium itself has magnetic properties under certain conditions, europium oxide may have weak magnetic properties or show magnetic related properties under specific conditions

Applications

In the field of fluorescent materials: used as activator of red phosphor for colour TV, it can provide clear and vivid red image and improve the picture quality of TV. It is also used in other colour display devices such as monitors and projectors. Can be used as phosphor for high pressure mercury lamps to improve the brightness and colour quality of the light. Used as excited emission phosphor for new X-ray medical diagnostic system, which plays a role in medical imaging diagnosis.

Chemical field: Europium oxide is used in the manufacture of dyes, rubber vulcanisation accelerators, amino resins, ethylenediamine urea-formaldehyde resins and many other chemicals, which plays an important role in chemical production.

Optical field: Europium oxide can be used in the manufacture of tinted lenses and optical filters, which can selectively absorb or transmit light of specific wavelengths, thus changing the colour or intensity of light.

In the field of nuclear industry: it can be used as the material of nuclear reactor control rods, which can be used to control the rate and intensity of nuclear reaction and ensure the safe operation of nuclear reactors.
