Crystal structure: CuSO₄・5H₂O In the crystal structure, the Cu ion is octahedrally coordinated, surrounded by four H₂O and two O. The fifth H₂O and two O are surrounded by the Cu ion. The fifth H₂O is connected to the two H₂Os in the Cu²⁺ octahedron and the two O’s in the SO₄²- in a tetrahedral shape, which acts as a buffer in the structure.
