Cesium Fluoride powder is a white crystalline powder consisting of Cesium ions (Cs⁺) and Fluoride ions (F-), which plays an important role in many fields such as chemistry, optics, etc. For example, it is a good ionic conductor commonly used in battery electrolytes and other fields.

Characteristics

Appearance: white powder

Melting point: 682°C

Boiling point: 1251°C

Density: Relative density at 25℃ is 4.115g/ml.

Specific surface area: It has large specific surface area, which makes it have high activity and reactivity in chemical reaction.

Deliquescence: It is deliquescent and easily absorbs moisture in the air, so it needs to be sealed and stored.

Solubility: easily soluble in water, at 18℃, 100ml water can dissolve 367g; at 20℃, the solubility in water is 3M, the solution is clear and colourless; also soluble in methanol, but insoluble in dioxane and pyridine.

Stability: It is chemically stable, but chemical reactions can occur under certain conditions.

Reactivity: Cesium fluoride, like other fluorides, contains fluoride ions (F-) in its crystals, and its chemical properties are similar to those of other solid fluorides. It can participate in halogen exchange reactions as a source of fluorine and react with electron-deficient chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons to form fluorinated hydrocarbons.

Applications

Chemical synthesis:

Halogen exchange reaction: in organic synthesis as a source of fluorine ions to participate in the halogen exchange reaction, and the reaction with electron-deficient chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons to form fluorinated hydrocarbons. This transformation is important in drug synthesis, pesticide synthesis and other fine chemical synthesis, and can introduce fluorine atoms to change the physicochemical properties and biological activities of molecules.

Nucleophilic Fluorination: Used as nucleophilic reagents for the fluorination of primary halides and sulfonates in a proton medium. This provides an effective method for the synthesis of fluorinated organic compounds, which have a wide range of applications in fields such as materials science and medicinal chemistry.

Catalyst: It can be used for silyl enol ether reaction with carbonyl compounds, and plays a catalytic role in some organic synthesis reactions, which can accelerate the reaction and improve the selectivity and yield of the reaction.

Material science field:

Optical Crystal Manufacturing: Due to its special optical properties, cesium fluoride can be used to manufacture optical crystals. These optical crystals have important applications in laser technology, optical communication, optical sensors, etc. For example, they can be used to manufacture gain media for lasers and optical filters.

Preparation of superconducting materials: used to effectively synthesise materials such as single-crystal Dion-Jacobson phase CsLaTa₂O₇, which has potential for application in photocatalysis as well as superconductivity, and is a driving force in the development of superconducting technology.

Analytical Chemistry: used as an analytical reagent, it can be used in various analytical methods in analytical chemistry, such as spectroscopic analysis, chromatographic analysis, etc., to help detect and quantitatively analyse other substances.

Other applications:

Preparation of fluorine-containing isocyanates: Fluorine-containing isocyanates are an important class of organic compounds with a wide range of applications in the fields of polyurethane materials, coatings, and adhesives, etc., and cesium fluoride can be used in their preparation process.

Battery electrolyte: In some battery systems, cesium fluoride can be used as one of the components of the electrolyte to participate in the charge transfer process and improve the performance of the battery.
