Cerium Sulfate powder is a white or slightly yellow crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water, containing cerium ions and sulfate ions, which can be used as catalysts, analytical reagents in the fields of chemistry, materials, etc. It is also used for the preparation of other cerium compounds.
Properties
Molecular weight: 568.42 g/mol;
Density: The density of cerium sulfate powder at 25°C is approximately 2.886 g/ml.
Melting point: Anhydrous cerium sulphate decomposes at about 920°C. For cerium sulphate octahydrate, the density is about 2.886 g/ml. For cerium sulphate octahydrate, the melting point is about 350°C (decomposition)
Magnetic properties: Cerium sulphate powder has a certain degree of magnetism with a magnetisation of +37.0 x 10-⁶ cm³/mol.
Solubility: Cerium Sulfate is hygroscopic and soluble in water, its solubility is about 9.25 g/100 ml at 20°C, and its solubility in hot water is slightly lower than in cold water. It is also soluble in dilute sulphuric acid, but insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol. The dissolution process may be accompanied by hydrolysis reactions, especially in large amounts of water may decompose into alkali salts. There are various hydrate forms, such as light green monoclinic crystals for pentahydrate, peach triclinic crystals for octahydrate, and light red hexagonal crystals for ninahydrate.
Oxidising property: it has strong oxidising property in acidic solution, its redox potential is high, it can oxidise some substances with reducing property.
Stability: Relatively stable at room temperature, but will decompose and other chemical reactions at high temperature or under specific conditions. It will lose crystalline water and become anhydrous salt around 630°C.
Applications
Analytical chemistry field:
Titrant: commonly used as redox titration reagent for the determination of nitrite, iodide, low-valent iron salts and other substances that can be oxidised to high valency.
Analytical reagent: Cerium Sulfate is used in the qualitative and quantitative analysis of a number of substances to help detect and determine the amount of specific elements or compounds in a sample.
Radiation dosimeter manufacturing: can be used to manufacture radiation dosimeters for measuring radiation dose.
Glass Industry: Cerium Sulfate can be used as decolourant and clarifier for glass, and can improve the optical properties and quality of glass. Its pentahydrate, octahydrate, and ninahydrate can be used as polishing materials for optical glass.
Catalyst: It is used as catalyst in some chemical reactions, for example, it can promote some reactions in organic synthesis reaction and improve the efficiency and selectivity of the reaction.
Iron and steel industry: It is used to remove free oxygen and sulphur from iron and steel, which improves the quality of iron and steel through the formation of stable oxysulphides and the binding of some undesired trace elements (e.g. lead, antimony, etc.).
Electronic materials: Cerium Sulfate can be used to prepare electronic materials such as electronic ceramics, capacitors, etc. to improve the performance of the materials.
Colour developer: mainly used as a colour developer for aniline black.
Environmental protection field: in waste water treatment, it can be used to remove heavy metal ions and organic pollutants in water, etc.
VI HALBLEITERMATERIAL GmbH (VIMATERIAL) employs a stringent quality assurance system to ensure the reliability of our product quality. Strict quality control is implemented throughout the entire production chain, and for defective products, we strictly enforce the principle of rework and redo. Each batch is released only after passing detailed specification tests.
Every batch of our materials is independently tested, and, if necessary, we send samples to certified companies for testing. We provide these documents and analysis certificates with the shipment to certify that our products meet the required standards.
