Cerium Hydroxide powder is a light pink or yellowish powder, insoluble in water, amphoteric, reactive with acids and bases, chemically active, with many applications in materials, catalysis, environmental protection and other fields.

Properties

Appearance: Cerium Hydroxide powders are usually a pale yellow or brownish-yellow powder, but may show other colours such as yellow, brown or pink in the presence of impurities.

Density: about 7.1g/cm³.

Solubility: Insoluble in water and weak acid, but soluble in concentrated acid to produce the corresponding salt.

Stability: relatively stable in air, but will absorb carbon dioxide to generate cerium carbonate.

Chemical properties: Cerium Hydroxide powders are oxidising and amphoteric and can react with acids and bases under certain conditions. Under certain conditions it can react with acids and bases. It has strong oxidising properties under acidic conditions.

Application

Glass industry: Cerium Hydroxide is used as a decolourising and clarifying agent for glass, improving the optical properties and quality of the glass. For example, in the production of colour TV glass, it can effectively remove impurities and colours from the glass, making the glass more transparent.

Chemical industry: It is used in the preparation of catalyst for purifying automobile exhaust gas, which helps to reduce the emission of harmful substances in automobile exhaust gas.
It can be used as stabiliser for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics to improve the stability and weather resistance of the plastics.
Used in the synthesis of cerium naphthalate and other compounds, can be used as paint drying agent, accelerate the drying process of paint.

Metallurgical industry: Cerium Hydroxide can be used as a spheroidising agent for ductile iron to improve the performance of cast iron and make it have better toughness and strength; it can also be used for smelting cerium ferrosilicon alloy and cerium-rich rare-earth ferrosilicon alloy.

Electronic industry: due to its good optical properties and electrical properties, it can be used in the manufacture of electronic devices, such as for the preparation of gas sensors, fuel cells and so on.

Electroplating technology: as an additive in the electroplating process, it can improve the quality and performance of the plating layer.

Chemical reagent: It can be used as an important chemical reagent for chemical analysis and laboratory research.
