Basic Information

Chemical formula and composition: The main component of gadolinium cerium target is a compound formed by cerium (Ce) and gadolinium (Gd).
Appearance and shape: usually made into round or rectangular flat plate shape, in order to adapt to the physical vapour deposition (PVD) and other equipment.
Density: The density is between cerium (approx. 6.77 g/cm³) and gadolinium (approx. 7.90 g/cm³) and varies according to the ratio of cerium and gadolinium content.
Melting point and thermal stability: The melting point ranges roughly between the cerium melting point (798°C) and the gadolinium melting point (1313°C) depending on the ratio of cerium and gadolinium content.

Application Fields

Magnetic storage devices: In magnetic storage devices such as hard disc drives, magnetic thin films are deposited by PVD using cerium Cerium – Gadolinium targets.

Other electronic components:Cerium – Gadolinium Functional films used in the manufacture of electronic components such as capacitors and resistors to provide specific electrical or magnetic properties to these components.

Optical film preparation:Cerium – Gadolinium used as a component of optical filters or mirror coatings to regulate optical properties such as reflection, refraction and absorption of light.

Optical communication field: It plays a role in the manufacture of optical components for optical communication equipment, for example, it can improve the optical performance of devices such as fibre optic connectors and wavelength-division multiplexers, and enhance the transmission efficiency and quality of optical signals.
