Direct reaction method: react calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) or calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂) with hydrogen bromide (HBr) to generate calcium bromide.
Bromination reaction method: prepare calcium bromide by direct reaction of metallic calcium (Ca) with bromine (Br₂)
Double decomposition method: prepare by reaction of soluble calcium salt (such as calcium chloride) with sodium bromide
Calcium bromide is a dehydrating agent used in photography, food preservatives, wood preservatives, fire retardants and freezing mixtures.
It is used as an oxidizer for mercury emissions control.
It is widely used for the preparation of drilling fluids, completion fluids and drilling muds formulations.
It also finds application in the manufacture of mineral water.
