Calcium aluminate (CaAl2O4) is an inorganic compound, and its powder form is called calcium aluminate powder. Calcium aluminate has the appearance of a white or off-white solid, which is not easily soluble in water, but can be dissolved in acidic solutions. Its chemical properties are similar to those of calcium aluminum silicate, and it can be converted into aluminum oxide and calcium carbonate at high temperatures.

VIMATERIAL can also provide calcium aluminate sputtering targets. If you need it, please contact us.

Properties

Chemical formula:CaAl2O4

Molar mass:158.038676 g/mol

Appearance: White monoclinic, triclinic or orthorhombic crystals

Density 2.981

Melting point 1600°C

Stability: Decomposes in water, soluble in hydrochloric acid (decomposition), but insoluble in nitric acid and sulfuric acid.

Production

The production process of CaAl2O4 mainly includes high-temperature sintering method, sol-gel method, chemical coprecipitation method, etc. High-temperature sintering method is one of the most commonly used methods. It is to mix calcium oxide and aluminum oxide powder at high temperature and sinter them to obtain calcium aluminate products.

The sol-gel method is to dissolve calcium oxide and aluminum oxide in a solvent, undergo a gelation process, and then dry and sinter to obtain CaAl2O4. The chemical coprecipitation method is to precipitate calcium ions and aluminum ions together through a chemical reaction, and then obtain calcium aluminate through high-temperature sintering.

Application

1. Advanced ceramics: Calcium aluminate can be used to make advanced ceramics, such as tiles, sanitary ware, etc. Due to its high melting point and high hardness, calcium aluminate can make the ceramic surface smoother, harder, and less prone to scratches.

2. Enamel: Calcium aluminate can be used to make enamel, which can make the enamel surface smoother, less prone to falling off and cracking.

3. Glass: Calcium aluminate can be used to make glass, which can make glass more transparent, harder, and less prone to scratches.

4. Cement: Calcium aluminate can be used to make cement, which can make cement stronger and less prone to cracking.

5. Advanced refractory materials: Due to the characteristics of calcium aluminate such as high melting point, high hardness, good chemical stability and thermal stability, it can also be used as an advanced refractory material.

Quality control

Our products implement the most stringent quality management system. There are strict inspection standards for incoming materials, processes, final inspections, and factory inspections. Strict isolation measures will be adopted for unqualified processing to prevent unqualified products from flowing into the next process. Samples will be provided to customers according to customer requirements for re-inspection.

Packaging and storage

Inner vacuum packaging, outer carton packaging.

1.  It needs to be stored in a dry and ventilated warehouse to avoid contact with water and moisture.

2. During storage and transportation, collisions and bumps need to be avoided to prevent powder from scattering or contamination.

3. During production and use, protective equipment, including masks, protective clothing, gloves, etc., needs to be worn.

4. Comply with relevant management regulations to prevent fire and explosion accidents.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

VI HALBLEITERMATERIAL GmbH (VIMATERIAL) employs a stringent quality assurance system to ensure the reliability of our product quality. Strict quality control is implemented throughout the entire production chain, and for defective products, we strictly enforce the principle of rework and redo. Each batch is released only after passing detailed specification tests.

Every batch of our materials is independently tested, and, if necessary, we send samples to certified companies for testing. We provide these documents and analysis certificates with the shipment to certify that our products meet the required standards.
