Cadmium Telluride sputtering target is a material used in physical vapour deposition technology, usually solid, composed of cadmium telluride compounds, in the process of thin film preparation, through the ion bombardment to make the target surface of the atoms or molecules sputtered, deposited on the substrate to form a cadmium telluride thin film, which can be widely used in the field of photovoltaic devices, such as solar cells, photo detectors.

Characteristics

Chemical formula: CdTe, a compound composed of two elements: cadmium (Cd) and tellurium (Te).

Appearance: Usually brownish black to black solid.

Density: about 5.85-5.9 g/cm3.

Melting point: 1090-1092°C

Boiling point: about 1130°C

Crystal structure: Has a stable crystal structure which affects the sputtering behaviour of atoms during sputtering and the crystal orientation of sputtered films.

Electrical Conductivity: Somewhat conductive, but relatively poor, which may affect energy transfer and sputtering rates during the sputtering process.

Thermal conductivity: low thermal conductivity, which makes it susceptible to thermal shock during the sputtering process.

Sputtering Characteristics: treated with a special manufacturing process, it has good sputtering properties and is capable of forming a uniform, dense film on the substrate. Its sputtering rate, sputtering angle distribution and other characteristics will affect the thickness uniformity and performance of the film.

Applications

Solar cell field:

Thin film solar cells: Cadmium Telluride is a key material for thin film solar cells. Using Cadmium Telluride sputtering target to deposit Cadmium Telluride thin film on the substrate through physical vapour deposition and other technologies, the prepared Cadmium Telluride thin film solar cells have the advantages of high photoelectric conversion efficiency, low cost and suitable for mass production. Its performance is comparable to that of traditional crystalline silicon solar cells and occupies an important position in the photovoltaic market.

Window layer material for solar cells: In some solar cell structures, Cadmium Telluride can also be used as a window layer material, in conjunction with other semiconductor materials, to improve the light absorption efficiency and photoelectric conversion performance of solar cells.

Semiconductor field:

Flat panel display field: In flat panel display technology, CdTe sputtering targets can be used to prepare thin film transistors (TFT) and other components in flat panel displays. CdTe thin films can be used as the semiconductor layer of TFTs to control the switching and brightness of pixels in the display, thus enabling the display of images.
