Barium Chloride powder is a white crystalline powder composed of barium ions and chloride ions, which is easily soluble in water, toxic, and has many applications in the fields of chemical industry, metallurgy and medicine.

Solubility: Barium Chloride is readily soluble in water, with high solubility in water (e.g. 37.5g/100cc water at 26°C, 59g/100cc water at 100°C), but insoluble in acetone and ethanol, slightly soluble in acetic acid and sulphuric acid. Its solubility decreases significantly in the presence of ethanol and chloride ions (e.g. calcium chloride).
Flame reaction: appears green.
CHEMICAL REACTIVITY: It is a soluble compound that can react with carbonate or sulphate solutions to form barium carbonate and barium sulphate precipitates.
Characteristics of hydrate: Barium Chloride usually contains two crystalline water, and it will lose crystalline water and become white powder at 113℃.
Application
Industrial field:
Manufacture of barium salts: It is an important raw material for the production of other barium salts, which can be used to prepare barium hydroxide, barium nitrate, barium carbonate and so on. These barium salts have a wide range of applications in chemical, electronic and material industries, for example, barium carbonate can be used in ceramics, glass, enamel and other industries, barium nitrate is commonly used in the manufacture of fireworks, flares and so on.
Metal Processing: In mechanical industry, it can be used as heat treatment agent for metal quenching and other processing, which can improve the performance of metal and enhance its hardness, strength and toughness.

Analytical reagent: it can be used in analytical chemistry to detect anions such as sulfate and selenate. When barium chloride solution is added, if sulfate ions are present, a white barium sulfate precipitate insoluble in acid will be generated, and the presence of sulfate ions can be detected qualitatively or quantitatively by observing the generation of the precipitate.
Chromatography: Used as an auxiliary reagent in certain chromatographic methods to help separate and detect different compounds.
Spot analysis for the determination of platinum: used in microanalysis for the determination of the element platinum.
