Aluminum Iodide (AlI₃) is an inorganic compound composed of aluminum and iodine. It is generally known in two forms: anhydrous aluminum iodide (AlI₃) and the hexahydrate form (AlI₃·6H₂O). AlI₃ is primarily used as a reagent in organic synthesis, catalysis, and other specialized chemical processes.

Act as a catalyst in organic reactions.
Used as electrolyte in dye-sensitized solar cells.
On the basis of the original work of dye-sensitized solar cells, aluminum iodide electrolyte was prepared by in situ reaction of aluminum and iodine in solution with ethanol as solvent under atmospheric environment.
The electrolyte was directly applied to dye-sensitized solar cells, and the high photoelectric conversion efficiency of 5.9% was obtained.
This new aluminum iodide electrolyte has four advantages, such as low cost, easy preparation, good performance and environmental friendliness, which opens up a new way for the research of dye-sensitized solar cell electrolytes.
Moisture Sensitivity: AlI₃ should be handled in a dry, inert atmosphere, such as nitrogen or argon, to prevent rapid hydrolysis.
Storage Requirements: Store aluminum iodide in tightly sealed containers, away from moisture and air, to maintain its integrity and reactivity.
Safety Precautions: As it decomposes to release hydroiodic acid upon contact with water, handling requires appropriate protective gear (e.g., gloves, goggles, and fume hood) to avoid exposure to corrosive fumes.
VI HALBLEITERMATERIAL GmbH (VIMATERIAL) employs a stringent quality assurance system to ensure the reliability of our product quality. Strict quality control is implemented throughout the entire production chain, and for defective products, we strictly enforce the principle of rework and redo. Each batch is released only after passing detailed specification tests.
Every batch of our materials is independently tested, and, if necessary, we send samples to certified companies for testing. We provide these documents and analysis certificates with the shipment to certify that our products meet the required standards.
