Molybdenum Tungsten Alloy wire is an alloy of two metal elements, molybdenum (Mo) and tungsten (W).

Characteristics

Density: The density of molybdenum is about 10.28g/cm³, the density of tungsten is about 19.3g/cm³, the density of molybdenum-tungsten alloy is in between and increases with the increase of tungsten content.

Melting point: the melting point of molybdenum is about 2623℃, the melting point of tungsten is about 3422℃, the melting point of molybdenum tungsten alloy increases with the increase of tungsten content, when the tungsten content is increased to 25%, the melting point of the alloy is increased by about 200℃ compared with that of pure molybdenum, and its melting point is in the range of 2620℃-3410℃.

Hardness: The hardness of the alloy basically increases with the increase of tungsten content, and its highest room temperature hardness value is between 90%-100% of tungsten content, with a Vickers hardness value of up to 3530-3860MPa, which is more than twice as high as that of pure molybdenum.

Thermal conductivity: It has good thermal conductivity and can effectively conduct heat when it is energised or in a hot environment.

Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: Small coefficient of thermal expansion, so that the dimensional changes in the temperature change is small, suitable for the high requirements of dimensional stability occasions.

Mechanical properties: when the tungsten content is increased from 0 to 40%, the room temperature tensile strength of the processed molybdenum tungsten alloy is increased from 617MPa to 900MPa. molybdenum-tungsten alloy has high strength and toughness, and is able to withstand large loads and impacts, and it has excellent abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance.

Electrical properties: molybdenum has good electrical conductivity, the addition of tungsten will affect the conductivity of the alloy to a certain extent, but molybdenum-tungsten alloy still has good electrical conductivity, can be used in some of the electrical conductivity requirements of the occasion.

Applications

Electronic industry: Used as filament or electrode material in electronic and electrical products such as electronic tubes and incandescent lamps. Due to its high melting point and good thermal stability, it can work stably at high temperature to ensure the normal operation of electronic equipment. For example, in some special vacuum electronic devices, molybdenum tungsten alloy wire is used as a heating filament to provide enough heat for electron emission.

In the field of high-temperature furnace: It is used as the heating element of high-temperature furnace. In some high-temperature heat treatment furnace, sintering furnace and other equipment, molybdenum tungsten alloy wire can withstand the high-temperature environment of the furnace, effectively convert electrical energy into heat energy, and heat the workpiece in the furnace.

Welding material field: It can be used as welding electrode material. In some occasions that require high welding quality, such as precision welding or high-temperature alloy welding, molybdenum tungsten alloy wire can provide stable welding current, and due to its strong anti-wear ability, the service life of the electrode is longer.
