Appearance: usually white crystalline powder, but industrial products are usually light brown or black powder, also in lumps. It may be phosphorescent when it contains traces of impurities.
\nDensity: Relative density is 4.25g\/cm\u00b3.
\nMelting point: 1200\u00b0C.
\nSolubility: soluble in water, dissolved and hydrolysed to Ba (HS)\u2082 and Ba (OH)\u2082.
\nHydrolysis: Gradually hydrolysed to barium hydroxide and hydrogen sulphide in contact with water, the aqueous solution is strongly alkaline and corrosive, able to burn the skin and make the hair fall off.
\nReaction with acid: hydrogen sulphide gas will be released when it meets acid (including carbon dioxide in humid air).
\nOxidation reaction: easily oxidised in humid air.<\/p>\n
