Indium Oxide particles are granular substances that are usually pale yellow or yellowish brown in appearance. The main component is indium oxide (In₂O₃), which has good electrical conductivity, chemical stability, and optical transparency, and plays a key role in many fields such as electronics and optics.

Properties

Chemical formula and molecular weight: chemical formula is In₂O₃, molecular weight is 277.6342.

Chemical stability: It is relatively stable at room temperature, but can react with acids and bases under certain conditions. For example, it is insoluble in water but soluble in hot inorganic acids.

Appearance: pure product is usually white or light yellow amorphous powder, which will change to reddish brown after heating.

Density: The density is about 7.179g/cm³ at 25℃.

Melting point: The melting point is high, about 2000℃.

Crystal structure: Indium oxide has a cubic ferromanganese structure, which determines its electrical and optical properties.

Electrical properties: Indium oxide is an n-type semiconductor material with a certain degree of electrical conductivity. When the particle size reaches the nanometer level, its electrical properties will change, such as resistance reduction.

Optical properties: high transparency in the visible range and some transmittance in the infrared region. Therefore, it can be used to manufacture transparent electrodes, transparent heat reflector materials, etc.

Applications

Electronic field:

Transparent conductive films: indium oxide is an important raw material for the preparation of indium tin oxide (ITO). ITO films have both excellent electrical and optical properties, such as low resistivity, high visible light transmittance, etc., and are widely used in transparent conductive electrodes for flat panel displays (e.g., liquid crystal displays, OLED displays, etc.), touchscreens, and organic electroluminescent devices.

Semiconductor devices: As an n-type semiconductor material, indium oxide can be used in the manufacture of semiconductor devices such as field effect transistors and photodetectors. In these devices, indium oxide particles provide good conductivity and electron transport properties.

Capacitors: It can be used as an insulating layer in capacitors, which helps to improve the performance and stability of capacitors.

Optical field:

Transparent heat reflector materials: capable of reflecting infrared rays and at the same time possessing high transparency in the visible range, they can be used to manufacture transparent heat reflector materials, such as heat-insulating coatings for architectural glass and automotive glass, which can maintain good light-gathering effects while effectively blocking heat transfer.

Optical lenses and filters: Due to its special optical properties, it can be used to manufacture optical lenses and filters, such as those used in some special optical instruments and photographic equipment to improve optical performance and filter specific wavelengths of light.

Laser materials: In the preparation of certain laser materials, indium oxide particles can be used as dopants or auxiliary materials to improve the performance and stability of laser materials.

Gas sensors: Indium oxide particles are a new type of n-type transparent semiconductor gas-sensitive material with wide forbidden band width, small resistivity and high catalytic activity. By doping different metal oxides, their gas-sensitive properties can be changed to improve the sensitivity or selectivity to a certain gas, so they can be used to manufacture gas sensors to detect various gases, such as oxygen, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and so on.

Catalyst field: Indium oxide particles can be used as catalysts or carriers of catalysts in some chemical reactions. For example, indium oxide has potential applications in reactions such as photocatalytic and thermocatalytic carbon dioxide hydrogenation for the preparation of carbon monoxide, methanol, and multicarbon fuels. Its unique structure and electronic properties can facilitate chemical reactions and improve their efficiency and selectivity.

Battery field: It can be used as a substitute mercury corrosion inhibitor for alkaline batteries, and has a better effect on improving the electrical performance of batteries and inhibiting gas generation.

Other fields:

Ceramics and glass industry: It can be applied in the production of coloured glass and ceramics as additives to improve the performance of glass and ceramics, such as increasing the hardness of glass and improving the conductivity of ceramics.

Protective coating for metal reflective mirrors: it can be used to form a protective coating on metal reflective mirrors to prevent the mirrors from being oxidised and corroded, and to improve the service life and reflective properties of the mirrors.

Spectroscopically pure reagent: due to its high purity and good stability, it can be used to prepare spectroscopically pure reagent, which is used in the field of spectral analysis and other scientific researches and analytical tests.
